SLO stands for search link optimization. It refers to the process by which internal and external incoming links are optimized for search engine algorithms to determine the relevance of web page content. The key to this process is relevant anchor text integration, text that contains keywords for optimizing a web page.

Search link optimization

Search link optimization

Basically, by optimizing links, you are creating more descriptive and helpful links that ease down the complexity for both the visitors as well as search engines. Optimized search links are meant to tell people and search bots about the destinations and where to click to reach them. Moreover, adding internal links means you are helping search engines and people discover more of the content on your own website that you have cumulated through research or worked hard to create to enhance others’ knowledge.

Internal links

Internal links

A search link that is not optimized, it tells the search engines that it is a link to some other website. It doesn’t tell the search engines anything about what the website is about or what subject category or keywords the website should be placed in. Moreover, it doesn’t describe the website to the visitors in a proper manner. All it tells the visitors is that it is a link to another website as the only thing visitors see is the website URL.

On the other hand, when a keyword rich anchor text is added to the link in order to optimize it, it optimizes your page, and adding a title provides further description of the link.

Now, the search engines not only read/scan the website URL, but they will also read/scan the keyword rich anchor text. Similarly, the visitors see a much more descriptive link imparting more knowledge about the website or webpage. The basic idea behind optimizing a search link is providing an exact idea of the content present on the age to which an optimized link directs.
