SEO can be categorized as on-screen and off-screen SEO. Both of these are responsible for ranking of a business website. The two categories have been mentioned in detail below:

On-page SEO:

On-page SEO refers to the practice of optimizing individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. On-page refers to both the content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimized to maximize the traffic on a website.

On-page SEO is important for search engines as it helps them determine what to rank your business’ website for. For this purpose, you need to have clearly defined:

i) header tags

ii) meta keywords

iii) website that is easy to crawl for search engine spiders.

Website ranking

On-page SEO takes into account the content on a webpage. It considers how it relates to content on a website in total, how relevant it is to the theme, what kind of text is in the links going out of a site and the sites they link to.

Off-page SEO

It refers to the techniques that can be used to improve the position of a website in the search engine results page. Many people associate off-page SEO with link building but it is more than that. Beyond website design, off-page SEO has to do with promotion methods for the purpose of ranking a website higher in the search results.

Off-page SEO mostly boils down to the links coming to a site from other sources, and the kind of anchor text they use. Off-page SEO focuses more on the outside sites that are linking back to a particular site, and a search engine’s algorithm looks more at how related the content on them is to that website, the position of its link, and the anchor text used in the link to determine how much the link is worth to them.
