Netflix continues to woo Americans

The online video streaming giant, Netflix has proudly announced that now, one-third of Americans are its subscribers. Yes, you read it right! Through a letter sent to its investors on Wednesday, Netflix announced that it has reached a whopping 40 million subscriptions in the United States. That translates into more than a third of American households.

Add another 20 million international subscribers to this and the overall number is, believe it or not, 60 million. Netflix has also announced that since January, its subscribers have streamed 10 billion hours of content. After the announcement of the rapidly growing subscriber base, its shares rose 12 percent.

According to the CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, “Clearly, over the next 20 years internet TV is going to replace [over the air] TV. Internet TV is the way people will consume video in the future.”

The Wall Street Journal, on Wednesday stated, “Netflix’s recent stock surge has left the tech company with a larger market value than some of its rivals in the traditional media market, including CBS and Viacom, among others.”
Overall, Netflix added a record 4.9 million new subscribers in the quarter beating its own previous quarter’s record of 4.3 million.

As of now, the firm’s global streaming membership is 62.3 million and Netflix has itself stated that when it comes to adding new subscribers to its network, it has exceeded its own expectations, domestically as well as on a global level. With such an ovelwhelming number of global subscribers, Netflix is in a great position to dominate Amazon, HBO and Vudu.
