A website hack is a nightmare for the website owners and the customers alike. It simply means loss of valuable customer and company data. Regardless of all the safety measures taken, a website is always prone to be hacked!

But how does one even know that a website is hacked?

Here are the very first signs that the website is on the verge of being hacked or has probably been hacked!

Modified content on the website:

This is quite saddening for the content and marketing team but the initial signs of a website hack can be seen in the website content. If you monitor your site closely, you’ll easily be able to identify any sort of modifications in the content. If you find strange content on any of your website pages that links to other websites that sell designer purses, watches or stuff like that, your website has probably been hacked.

Red or white screen:

As a matter of fact, browsers are among the first ones to alert you about a website hack. In case a browser shows a red screen with a warning sign that indicates your website contains malware indicates that your website has been hacked. In a similar scenario, if the screen turns white on entering the website URL, it’s a sign that the website has been compromised (until and unless the website redesign process is in progress).

Disabled website:

The servers are regularly scanned by the web hosting companies. In case they find any malware in a website’s code or any unusual happenings on the website, it is disabled at once. This is done in order to safeguard the other websites on the server. So, if your website is disabled by the server, it is most probably due to some malware attack.

Degraded website performance:

Website speed is largely affected in the case of a website hack. A regular monitoring of the website can help let you know if pages like checkout, login, signup and more are taking unusual times to load. This undoubtedly indicates the hacking of your website.

As soon as you see any of the above signs, it’s advisable to take effective measures to recover your website.
